Impeachment

This video played today in the Senate trial of Donald John Trump. It is appalling. This government under this Constitution is the cause that all the men in all the caskets in Arlington Cemetery and in marked, and unmarked, locations around the world defended with their blood. In a matter of two hours these “patriots” trampled the legacy of all that fought and died for this American Republic.

Embarrassing? No worse than any other minute of the disastrous last four years. Shameful. You’d have to really try to sink lower. Traitorous? Borderline.

Why not traitorous? These dipshits believed they were fighting for their country and their president. They didn’t believe the 50 states and 63 courts that confirmed Trump lost. They believed Trump even though it was impossible. When 50 states certify the election and 63 courts agree it’s a level of teamwork in government that has a snowball’s chance in hell of ever being achieved. Impossible.

When you’re fighting to save your country, you’re not a traitor. When you’re fighting to defend your “freedoms,” you’re a patriot. When, in reality, you’re doing none of those and are really fighting to defend a personality cult dedicated to one man, you’re really not capable of critical thinking. We were always told that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Let’s add that stupidity will not keep you out of jail.

Make no mistake, Donald Trump knew what he was doing. He invited these domestic terrorists to Washington D.C. with a tweet. We watched a similar group of deplorables take over the Michigan Capitol building earlier this year after he tweeted at them to “Liberate Michigan!” He knew what he was doing. A joint session of Congress convening to certify the election was the perfect time to overthrow our Democracy. That’s what this was. An attempted overthrow of the American government. It was incited by the president in front of a mindless mob that included known terrorists groups. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Two forces stopped a civil war. First, most of the mob Trump attracted were dumber than him. When you throw a coup you don’t stop because of a video tweet of your god telling you he loves you and you’re special. What the fuck is that? Did everyone get a trophy? Either you’re in for a penny and in for a pound, or you’re going to get arrested when the smart phone you’re carrying calls the cops and tracks you down. (Doubly tracked if any had the COVID vaccination.) You don’t call off the overthrow of the most powerful nation in the world to hold hands and sing “Jesus Loves Me” after only two hours of conflict.

The second force was the unprepared Capitol Police. We should thank them as we watch them fight without so much as a helmet. Without them a war might still be waging in the nation. They controlled a mob of “patriots” yelling obscenities at a police force that is so sacred to the same mob when blacks protest. The same “Back the Blue” patriots killed a cop. Cut the fingers off another. Wounded 140. 140 COPS! These cops saved the country from a mob who used the otherwise precious American flag to pound the windows out of the nation’s capitol building. On purpose. Their flagpoles were weapons in disguise.

The republicans are scared shitless of Trump and his base. The Dems need to make the republican co-conspirators, who are now the jury at this fucking circus squirm like the worms they are. All of them, from Moscow Mitch, Ted Cruz, and Josh Hawley on down to the bottom where Lauren Boebert resides need to have their own words thrown in their face. They are all complicit in the “Big Lie” they told that incited the mob into treason and continues to divide a nation that should be united against a pandemic.

The election wasn’t rigged but both Trump impeachments have been. If the Dems can’t get past the rigged jury, at least politically wound the bastards so badly that these hypocrites can never rise again. That would be a win even better than convicting Trump.

I have a feeling the criminal justice system would like to have a few words with him anyway.
